How Much Does It Cost?
Moss treatment is typically charged by the square (100 square feet), the rates vary from home to home and severity of the issue
Your average home will typically cost between $400-$800 for the first year depending on size and amount of moss to remove, while maintenance visits on a newer roof or in successive years is about half ($200-$500).
Price also varies depending on which products are used with organic herbicides, such as moss melt, costing about 25% more due to having stricter application windows and having to be sprayed on.
When is the best time for it?
The best time for dealing with moss depends on the exact location and nature of your issue but in general the early fall and early spring, when moss is growing the most, are the best times to do it.
More severe moss buildup problems might need to be dealt with at different times. The dry heat of the summer makes removal and cleanup quicker and easier (saving us time and you money), but moss treatments are woefully ineffective on dry dormant moss, you can’t kill what’s already dead.
In these situations we like to make two visits, one to remove the problematic moss and then a second for treatment and to prevent any regrowth when the conditions are conducive to getting the best treatment possible
How Long Does It Last?
About 6-18 months depending on several factors such as conditions and which chemicals were used if any.
Scraping will remove the moss but doesn’t prevent new growth from spores, only removing the issue but not preventing it from coming back. Chemical treatments will kill spores and growing bits in little cracks and crevices giving you more time without having to worry.
We usually recommend 1-2 times per year depending on things like tree coverage and sun exposure after your initial cleaning to prevent any regrowth.
